Painted Trees of Hawaii - Step One: Germination - Slideshow Presentation

Grace helps explains how we are growing eucalyptus trees in Hawaii through a series of eight photographs. Eventually these most colorful treeswill be used in our Painted Trees of Hawaii Nature Park & Learning Center. This purpose of our Nature & Learning Center will help bring awareness to the trees. Our ultimate goal is to help preserve the trees for future generations.

SLIDESHOW TEXT FOR EACH STEP
STEP 1 - GERMINATION - GRACE HAS A BAG OF EUCALYPTUS SEEDS. SHE IS READY TO BEGIN THE FIRST STEP OF THE GROWING PROCESS.

STEP 2 - WE BEGIN USING A MIXTURE OF PURE WATER AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE.

STEP 3 - WE SPAY THE SOLUTION ONTO A CLEAN, DRY PAPER TOWEL. THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE SEEDS IN PLACE AND HELP ACCELERATE THE GERMINATION PROCESS.

STEP 4 - PLACE THE SEEDS GENTLY ONTO THE SURFACE OF THE PAPER TOWEL.

STEP 5 - YOU CAN SEE HOW SMALL THE SEEDS AFTER THEY HAVE PLACED ON THE PAPER TOWEL.

STEP 6 - ONCE THE SEEDS ARE IN PLACE THE PAPER TOWEL NEEDS TO BE FOLDED TWICE.

STEP 7 - ONCE THE MOIST PAPER TOWEL IS FOLDED IT IS PUT INTO A PLASTIC ZIP LOCK BACK. BE SURE THERE IS NOT TOO MUCH WATER IN THE BAG.

STEP 8 - GRACE PUTS A DATE ON THE BAG. WE WILL CHECK ON THE SPROUTS DURING THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. ONCE THE SEEDS HAVE SPROUTED WE TRANSPLANT THE SEEDLINGS TO SMALL GROWING FILLED WITH SOIL.
